Red Rum was a national treasure. Trained by Ginger McCain he was a legendary steeplechaser who won the Grand National at Aintree, the biggest annual racing event, in 1973, 1974 and 1977. He was also a runner-up on two occasions - a record that may well never be equalled. "Rummie" was a bay thoroughbred. He died in 1995 at the age of 30 and is buried near the winning post at Aintree Racecourse.
